We've replaced the legacy algorithm with the far more secure PBKDF2 standard for all internal system user passwords. This upgrade introduces advanced cryptographic techniques like salting and multiple iterations, making password hashes significantly harder to crack through brute-force or rainbow table attacks.

To ensure a smooth transition, we've built in full backward compatibility:
Existing users with MD5-hashed passwords can continue logging in without interruption.
Upon successful login, their passwords are automatically upgraded to PBKDF2 behind the scenes.
