A Metric Trends widget displays time-series data for a selected metric. It allows you to monitor how a metric changes over time and helps identify patterns, spikes, or performance trends for monitored objects.
You can use this widget to track operational metrics such as queue depth, message rates, or other numeric attributes in near real time.
You can create a Metric Trends widget by:
Creating a new widget
Editing an existing widget
All supported objects that expose numeric metrics can display their time-series data using a Metric Trends widget.
Create a New Metric Trends Widget
Click the Add Widget
button at the top-right of the dashboard.
The Create Widget dialog opens.Select Create Using Object Search or Create Temporary Using Search.
The Create New Widget dialog opens.From the Technology list, select the required technology.
From the left side of the dialog, select the required object type (for example, Node, Manager, Queue, or Channel).
From the Widget Type list, select Metric Trends.
Scroll to the Select Metric section.
From the Metric list, select one or more metrics to monitor.
Click Create.
The widget appears on the dashboard and begins collecting time-series data for the selected metric.
The Metric Trends widget starts collecting data after creation. It may take a few minutes before the chart displays the first data points.
Important Notes
- Metric Trends cannot be created when the Object Type is set to All (for example, Queue Type).
- Metric Trends always display data for the entire selected date range (default: "Last 3 Hours").
- Metrics are disabled when a Temporary widget is selected.
Viewing and Interacting with the Metric Trends Widget
After creation:
The widget displays metric values plotted over time.
The chart updates automatically as new monitoring data becomes available.
Hover over the chart to view exact metric values at specific timestamps.
Click Show filters to filter the displayed data. You can filter by Node, Manager, Object, and Put Date Time Range.
Use the Put Date Time Range option to select a specific time period for the displayed metrics.
Drag the widget to reposition it within the dashboard.
Resize the widget to improve visibility of the trend data.
The Metric Trends widget helps visualize how metrics change over time and supports continuous monitoring of system behavior.
Monitoring Metric Trends in Observe
You can also monitor the same metrics in the Observe UI, which provides additional visualization and analysis capabilities.
