The following is a detailed example of the data model for tracking. Please refer to data model for an explanation of terms.
My workday example
Main Activity: In this example, “My Workday” is the main activity. "My Workday" is the highest level activity and it is the relationship of other sub-activities, events and snapshots.
Sub-activities: “My Workday” consists of the following sub-activities:
- I come to work
- I go to lunch
- I have a Skype call
Events: These sub-activities are outcomes of related events. For example, “I come to work,” consists of the following related events:
- I open the office door with my key card
- I say hello to different colleagues
- I turn on my computer
Events not related to the main activity can exist; they occur on their own without any parent activity. For example, “a bird hit a window.” It happened during your workday and you saw it in your office, but it is not related to your workday (the main activity).
Snapshots: The events can have snapshots. Snapshots are collections of event data aspects which can be measured statistically. Examples of snapshots for each of the above example events:
- The amount of time it took me to enter the office with my key card
- Duration of conversation with each colleague
- Duration of computer startup
