The meshIQ Platform version 11 uses a single license model to cover all aspects of the meshIQ Platform.
How many licenses will you get?
If you have one Domain and only one Manage Workgroup Server (WGS) and/or one Track Service, you will receive a single license for all components. Your organization name will be part of the name as shown.
For example:
meshiq_org_Prod_MQM.lic
If you have more than one Domain, such as Prod and NonProd, then you will receive a separate license for each Domain.
For example:
meshiq_org_Prod_MQM.lic
meshiq_org_NonProd_MQM_NPRD.lic
If you have more than one WGS within a Domain, you will receive a separate license for each WGS name. These licenses will be identical except for the instance count that is specific to each WGS.
For example:
meshiq_org_Prod_MQM_PRD1.lic
meshiq_org_Prod_MQM_PRD2.lic
Where do you store the licenses on the system?
The licenses need to be available to the components. There are several models that can be used to store the files for usage. The preferred method is to store a copy of the license with the component that uses it. That is, for the Domain, store the license in the naming folder. For the WGS, store the respective license in the localhost folder. Store the meshIQ Track license in the utility folder.
The following explains how each component accesses the license by default. To learn how to change the location of your license, see How do I change the location of my meshIQ Platform license?.
Domain - At startup, the Domain looks for the license in the naming folder that it is executed from. Optionally, you can store the licenses in a different location and specify that location in the domain properties.
WGS - The WGS gets the location of the license from its properties, specifically the License File property on the General tab. If the Workgroup server is installed alone on your system, use this field to specify the file name only (for example, meshiq_Prod_MQM.lic). For single server systems, specify the license file location as a relative or absolute path (for example, ../naming/meshiq_Prod_MQM.lic
or /app/meshiq/licenses/meshiq_Prod_MQM.lic
).
Track - The license is loaded into the Tracking Database using a utility. Once it is loaded, the physical license is no longer required.
How are the contents of the license used?
The key element of the license is the Expiration Date. The other elements of the license used by the components are:
- User Count - The Domain server uses the license to determine the number of named users that are allowed to use the meshIQ Platform.
- Total Instances - The Workgroup Server uses the license to determine the number of instances that it can manage.
- StreamBytesPerDay and Retention - The Track Service uses the license to determine the amount of data that can be collected.
