Adding IBM MQ messages to queues is performed on the Add new message to: queue_name dialog.
You get to this window in one of two ways:
- Click the Put New button from a Message viewlet.
- Or, select Messages > Put New from a queue's Action menu (Selected menu in 11.2).
The instructions below explain how to add a message from the queue's Action menu (Selected menu in 11.2).
- Within the queue viewlet, select the queues you want to put messages on. From the Action menu (Selected menu in 11.2), select Messages > Put New Message. In the example below, the two queues selected are on queue managers AB.MQ.Q.02 and AB.MQ.Q.03.
- On the General tab of the Add new message to: queue_name dialog, enter the following details:
-
- Number of Messages: Enter the number of messages to put into a queue. In the example below, “Sample test message” is entered as the message and a quantity of ten will be added to both queues.
- Message Size (bytes): Displays the size of the message text being entered or created in the Data field.
- If Put Failed: Select the action that should be taken if Put command fails.
- Contains headers: The header(s) in the message. Select MD1, MDE, DLH and/or XQH. Please note that DLH and XQH cannot be selected together.
- File attachment: Enter the path of the file to attach to the message.
- Message Criteria: Select from the Criteria list to apply Message Criteria. By default, the Message Criteria from User Settings or Global Settings is selected. You can also select other Message Criteria records.
- Data: Within the Data section, select the message data type (text, hex XML or JSON). Check the Text only checkbox to display the message content as text only. Unchecking Text only will display the message content with offsets which increases the load on the browser and should be used only for small messages. The message encoding type can be changed, select this from the Encoding drop-down.
- Enter details on the MD, MD1, MDE, DLH, XQH and PMO tabs as needed. Review the MD options to ensure that they meet your expectations for message type.
-
Click Ok.
- Ten messages are now added to each of the selected queues.
Viewing the put messages
- Click on one of the queues you put messages on.
-
A new viewlet opens within the Console panel and displays all of the selected queue’s messages.
-
Select one of the messages and select View message from the Action menu (Selected menu in 11.2) to view more details.
-
The View message window opens. You can see details such as the format of the message (Hex, Text, XML, or JSON). In the example below, the message is of Text format. You can also see whether there are message properties (view these by clicking the MsgProp button).
-
Click Cancel to return to the dashboard. Using the buttons located at the top left of the viewlet, you can perform actions such as editing, deleting and moving messages.
